Craig A. Fieschko

Craig Fieschko focuses his practice on the acquisition and litigation of United States and foreign patents, trademarks, and copyrights. After receiving bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering, he began his career as a researcher and programmer for Amoco Oil Research and Development, and as an instructor for courses in engineering instrumentation at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He then attended law school at the University of Wisconsin, and attained registration as a patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Apart from DeWitt Ross & Stevens, he also teaches intellectual property at the University of Wisconsin Law School. Mr. Fieschko's service is recognized as exemplary, and he has won the Charles Dunn Author Award from the State Bar of Wisconsin. He also has been included on the list of the area's "Top Lawyers" compiled by Madison Magazine. To read the article, click here.

Regarding patents, Mr. Fieschko's background in mechanical and electrical technologies, engineering instrumentation, and programming has helped his clients obtain and enforce numerous patents in fields such as analytical and testing equipment in science and medicine, medical/biological implants, instruments for nanotechnology, engineering software applications, engines and automotive technologies, chip and semiconductor manufacturing processing, packaging machines, and agricultural equipment.

Mr. Fieschko also works with numerous start-up companies and individual inventors. In this area he has obtained and litigated patents relating to exercise equipment, tools, bicycling and biking equipment, car and truck equipment, and hunting and camping gear.

In the trademarks field, Mr. Fieschko manages and protects the trademark portfolios of numerous U.S. and foreign businesses of all sizes. Owing to Mr. Fieschko's years of experience teaching trademark law, and in trademark litigation before the federal courts and in opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, other law firms often call on him to assist their clients.

Two helpful workbooks written by Mr. Fieschko address patents and trademarks, and are available online: Introduction to Patents and the Patent Process and Introduction to Trademarks. Mr. Fieschko also is the author of the article, "6 Easy Steps to Highly Effective Patent Searching," published in the June 6, 2005, issue of Design News.

When Mr. Fieschko is not at his office, in the classroom, or in court, he is usually found goofing off with his sons (unless his wife has given all of them a time-out). Otherwise, Mr. Fieschko enjoys public speaking, and is a frequent lecturer on patents, trademarks, and other legal topics for businesses, professional groups, and civic organizations.
