Mark R. Sewell

Mr. Sewell's law practice is devoted to all aspects of municipal law, land use issues, commercial real estate developments, and creditor/debtor issues.

In land use matters, Mr. Sewell's extensive experience includes siting wind energy systems, siting an ethanol plant, municipal waste water treatment facilities, and land use litigation. His real estate practice includes commercial developments, tax incremental financing, and condominiums. 

Currently, Mr. Sewell represents cities, villages, towns, and developers. He has practical experience as a city attorney, village attorney and town attorney. He also has personal business experience, having been an owner of a small business and serving as vice president of a multi-state health care agency. Mr. Sewell has also represented area banks, individuals and businesses with regard to bankruptcy and foreclosure issues. 

Mr. Sewell serves as president of the State Bar of Wisconsin agriculture/ agribusiness law section board of directors. An active speaker, he has presented on the following topics: "Land Use and Zoning Issues," "Issues in Rural Development," "Easements and Other Property Rights," "Representing the Farmer in Development of Ag Land," "Project Siting 101: Obtaining Approval for Your Controversial Development Project, " and  “Siting Wind Energy Facilities in Rural Areas.” 

Mr. Sewell is a former member of the Town of Christiana Plan Commission. Additionally, he served on the Board of Education for the Cambridge School District for nine years and was president of the Board for eight years.

A cum laude graduate from the University of Wisconsin Law School, Mr. Sewell's work as a lawyer has been recognized with Top Lawyer designation in municipal law by Madison Magazine, and in The Best Lawyers in America® in the specialty of Land Use & Zoning law. 

Mr. Sewell's recent practice includes:

  • Representation of cities and villages in Waukesha, Dane, Sauk and Milwaukee counties.

  • Land use litigation on behalf of land owners in Door and Winnebago counties.
     
  • Land use litigation on behalf of a town regarding an historic church in Dane County.
     
  • Representation of land owners regarding spreading of industrial waste in Rock County.
     
  • Representation of outdoor sign companies.
     
  • Eminent domain litigation.
