Michael Christopher has an extensive law practice representing corporate and individual clients with a focus on real estate development, zoning, annexation, and government relations issues. Due to his work, Mr. Christopher has been named by Madison Magazine to its list of the area's "top lawyers." Mr. Christopher has been active in numerous professional and civic organizations. He is a member of the Wisconsin chapter of the American Planning Association, and has served two terms on the State Bar of Wisconsin Board of Governors. Mr. Christopher was an Alderperson for the City of Madison for eight years and also served on the Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission and the Madison Police and Fire Commission. Currently, Mr. Christopher is on the Board of Directors of Downtown Madison, Inc. Most recently, he was appointed by Gov. Jim Doyle to serve as his designee on the Wisconsin Judicial Council.
Mr. Christopher has given presentations on sustainable design and development titled "Going Green Without Going In The Red - Opportunities and Risks Associated with Green Development".
On the personal side, Mr. Christopher loves to read and to travel with his wife, Barb, who is a Madison teacher, and his two adult children. Two additional passions for Mr. Christopher are baseball and politics.
Mr. Christopher has recently represented clients in the following types of matters:
- The development and approval of a $73 million mixed -use project.
- Negotiated numerous tax incremental financing agreements on behalf of municipalities and developers, including a technology campus in Dane County.
- Obtained governmental approval for numerous commercial, residential, and industrial projects throughout Wisconsin.
- Negotiated a landmark Cooperative Inter-Governmental Agreement among three municipalities in Dane County.
- Negotiated the construction of a Dane County Justice Center on behalf of the Dane County Bar Association.
