During his career, Scott has assisted some of the nation’s largest companies in defending against employment-related lawsuits, including Title VII cases, wage and hour cases, and Fair Credit Reporting Act cases. Scott also has litigated a variety of general commercial matters.  Due to his litigation experience, Scott takes particular pride in helping clients to avoid legal actions whenever possible.  He has worked closely with companies to develop policies, practices, and contracts that significantly reduce the risk of claims.

He has also helped successfully defend employers’ background screening practices before administrative or judicial bodies in Wisconsin, New York, and Michigan. Further, he has published several articles on background screening issues and delivered presentations on background screening topics for large and small audiences around the country.

In addition to helping employers on background screening issues, Scott has provided legal assistance to dozens of background screening providers. Among other things, he has:

  • Offered regular advice to background screening providers on how to comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act and similar state laws.
  • Worked with background screening providers to develop top-of-the-line contracts and sample forms for end-users.
