With an understanding that employers need to continually work to ensure their employee benefits plans are accurate, up-to-date and designed in a manner which is advantageous to the employer as well as employees, Tim navigates the employee benefits arena while helping his clients achieve their goals. He has extensive experience in employee benefits and employment matters.

He regularly works with a variety of retirement plans and the many facets associated with those plans. Examples include:

  • 401(k), profit sharing, employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs)
  • Traditional defined benefit pension plans
  • Plan document compliance
  • Fiduciary issues
  • Prohibited transactions
  • IRS filings (such as determination letter requests)
  • QDROs and helping to correct mistakes made by plan sponsor or a service provider

Clients

Tim works with companies of all sizes, in several industries including manufacturing, distribution and transportation, with multiple clients in the professional employer organization (PEO) industry. A sample of the clients he currently represents includes: ABC Supply, Inc., Weather Shield Manufacturing, Inc., Diversified Benefit Services, The QTI Group, and The Employer Group.

Notable Representations

  • Over the past 3 years, Tim helped dozens of employers avoid the disastrous result of disqualification of retirement plans (including employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), 401(k) plans and traditional defined benefit plans) by the IRS. This was accomplished by taking advantage of the IRS’s “amnesty” correction programs.
  • He regularly works with clients experiencing health and welfare plan compliance issues with COBRA, HIPAA, and Wisconsin insurance laws, as well as Wisconsin and federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) matters.  These compliance issues include both health and Section 125 cafeteria plans.  He also advises employers on employment law issues, such as unlawful discrimination, wage and hour issues and employee handbooks.
  • Tim has ably assisted employers in developing retirement plans that allow business owners to save more money for retirement.
  • In addition, he has helped several employer clients provide executive compensation strategies, such as phantom stock benefits, to reward long-term management employees.

Articles / Presentations
